Sometimes mothers themselves do not seem to be emotionally affected by experiencing traumatic events or abuse. Witnessing these events can be very distressing however, and it can be confusing to try to understand why Mom is not affected and you are.

Women may want to talk with their care providers after the birth, request medical records, write letters, file complaints, contact patient representatives or attorneys. How do you best support her through this? What if you want to and she does not?
